New mission presidents - Church News

Seven new mission presidents and their wives have been called by the First Presidency. They will begin service about July 1. Mission assignments will be announced later.

Monte Joseph Brough, 47, and Emily Jane Thompson Brough, four children, Wellsville 1st Ward, Wellsville Utah Stake. Brother Brough serves as a ward Young Men president and is a former bishop, counselor in a bishopric, high councilor and missionary in the Guatemala Quetzaltenango Mission. Sister Brough serves as a ward Relief Society president and is a former ward Young Women president, Primary president and gospel doctrine teacher. Born in Salt Lake City, to LeRoy Briggs and Chloe Jean Rice Thompson.

Paul Naylor Clayton, 56, and Holly Ballard Clayton, six children, Lone Hollow Ward, Sandy Utah Crescent Stake. Brother Clayton serves as a Scout committee chairman and is a former bishop, counselor in a bishopric, stake executive secretary, high councilor, elders quorum president and missionary in the Peru Lima Mission. Self-employed anesthesiologist. Born in Salt Lake City, to John LeRoy and Farrell Naylor Clayton.

Sister Clayton serves as a ward Relief Society teacher and is a former counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency, ward Relief Society president and counselor, Young Women adviser and secretary and counselor in a Primary presidency. Born in Salt Lake City, to M. Russell and Barbara Bowen Ballard.

George Earl Peterson, 60, and Kathryn Marjorie Allen Peterson, five children, Lakeside Ward, Gilbert Arizona Val Vista Stake. Brother Peterson serves as a counselor in a stake presidency and is a former high councilor, bishop, Scoutmaster and missionary in the Philippines Mission. Farmer. Born in Mesa, Ariz., to Grant Eugene and Marie Felshaw Peterson.

Sister Peterson serves as a ward Relief Society teacher and a temple ordinance worker for the Mesa Arizona Temple. She is a former ward Relief Society, Primary and Young Women president, counselor in a Relief Society presidency, Relief Society secretary, counselor in a Young Women presidency, Young Women adviser and Cub Scout committee chairman. Born in Mesa, Ariz., to Wayne Holt and Melba Peterson Allen.

Robert Charles Reeves, 55, and Janet Denise Heagle Reeves, nine children, Ray Ward, Gilbert Arizona Greenfield Stake. Brother Reeves serves as a patriarch and is a former counselor in two mission presidencies, stake president, bishop, elders quorum president, seminary teacher and missionary in the Spain Madrid Mission. Sister Reeves is a former stake Relief Society president, counselor in a stake Primary presidency, counselor in a ward Primary presidency, counselor in a Relief Society presidency, Relief Society secretary, Young Women president and mission preparation teacher. Born in Ventura, Calif., to Raymond Henry and Mary Elizabeth Drummond Heagle.

Evan Antone Schmutz, 56, and Cindy Lee Sims Schmutz, five children, Hillcrest 8th Ward, Orem Utah Hillcrest Stake. Brother Schmutz serves as a counselor in a stake presidency and is a former bishop, high councilor, elders quorum president, gospel doctrine teacher, ward Young Men president and counselor and missionary in the North Carolina Greensboro Mission. John Sears Tanner, 60, and Susan Winder Tanner, five children, Edgewood Ward, Edgemont Utah Stake. Brother Tanner is a counselor in a stake Young Men presidency and is a former stake president, bishop, counselor in two separate bishoprics, high councilor, gospel doctrine teacher, and missionary in the Brazil South Mission. Professor of English and Academic Vice President, Brigham Young University. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to William Coats, Jr. and Athelia Sears Tanner.

Sister Tanner serves in a Church writing assignment and is a former general Young Women president, member of the Relief Society general board, counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency, Young Women president, stake and ward Primary president and counselor, and ward Young Women president. Born in Salt Lake City, to Richard William and Barbara Woodhead Winder.

Weston Lincoln Watkins, 49, and Rebeckah Ann Gillins Watkins, five children. Alpine 2nd Ward, Utah Alpine North Stake. Brother Watkins serves as a branch president at the Provo Missionary Training Center and is a former counselor in a Provo MTC branch presidency, ward executive secretary, high councilor, elders quorum president, assistant high priest group leader, ward Primary worker and missionary in the Mexico Mexico City South Mission. Retired director, Credit Suisse. Born in Bronxville, N.Y., to George Elwin and Geraldine Swensen Watkins.
